  BACKGROUND
In 1949, Ken Swanson (1900-1986) formed Swanson Sales in Des Moines, Iowa. It became Swanson Gentleman, Inc. when Greg Gentleman purchased the controlling interest in 1961. Dick Hart was a direct sales representative for a large supplier from 1959 until 1971 when Swanson Gentleman Hart was formed in Omaha, Nebraska.

OWNERSHIP
Incorporated in 1974, Swanson Gentleman Hart, Inc. stock was equally held by Dick Hart and Greg Gentleman, who continued to operate Swanson Gentleman, Inc. in Iowa. In 1986, Gary Martin, an employee since 1981, purchased a one-third interest. When Greg Gentleman retired in 1992, Joe Foral, an employee with seven years of service, became a stockholder.

In 2000, Dean Jessick bought the Company from Dick Hart and Gary Martin. Joe Foral, Jack Gray, and Tracy Salmonson have become partners. The Company name has been changed to SGH, Inc.

TERRITORY
Original coverage of Nebraska and western Iowa was expanded to include South Dakota in 1982. In 1989, an office was opened for the Kansas City area and when Greg Gentleman liquidated Swanson Gentleman, Inc. in 1992, the balance of Iowa with an office in Des Moines was added.

In 2005, a Minneapolis location was added by purchasing a company called Valley Building Products, Inc.

FACILITIES
Combination office and warehouse spaces are located in Omaha, Kansas City, Des Moines and Minneapolis.

PRODUCTS
As some products are not available at all locations, the component areas of a building project, which the Company supplies, are listed on our website. Product reliability and distributor capability can generally be measured by the length of the association. Most of our products have been represented by the Company since 1958 in Des Moines and since 1971 in Omaha.
